Thursday, November 20, 2008 @4:00am CST Weather synopsis from Meteorologist Marcus Bailey - Here comes the big chill! A blast of cold, Arctic air will rush through the Midwest today in the wake of a cold front that passed through last night. Highs will only crack into the mid 30's for today, and we will still stay on the windy side through the afternoon and evening. Overnight lows will be very chilly, hanging in the low to mid teens. The weekend looks dry, and we should be close to average in temperatures as we jump into the holiday week.

Wednesday, November 19, 2008 @7:34pm CST
Reported by: WMBD/WYZZ Christy Stelzer WMBD/WYZZ - SPRINGFIELD - Hundreds of Pontiac Prison supporters are in Springfield marching on the capitol to save their prison. The governor has slated the prison to close at the end of December, but residents want him to think again. Three charter buses left Pontiac Wednesday morning, filled with supporters, and people arrived in Springfield armed with "Save Pontiac Prison" signs and t-shirts.
Pontiac residents joined local leaders in a rally to show support for the prison before marching to the capitol. Although the governor is not in town, marchers are dropping off student written letters to his office, asking him to keep the prison open. If Pontiac's Prison closes, it will cost more than 700 people their jobs and take an economic toll on central Illinois.
Meanwhile, the Illinois House Appropriations Committee meeting scheduled for Thursday has been canceled. The meeting was supposed to focus on the prison closure and accusations regarding the safety of the state's parole program. Pontiac Mayor Scott McCoy was supposed to speak at that meeting. AFSCME representatives say lawmakers don't expect to reschedule.
